Security clearance

SC and DV cleared jobs in Cumbria

Clearance is the single biggest accelerator in nuclear and defence hiring — an existing SC or DV takes weeks off a start date and employers pay for it. These vacancies either require clearance now or will sponsor it after offer, across submarine build, licensed nuclear sites and the MOD supply chain.

Common questions

What is the difference between BPSS, SC and DV clearance?

BPSS is a baseline identity, right-to-work and criminal record check used for general site access. SC (Security Check) adds a financial and records check and allows long-term access to secret material. DV (Developed Vetting) adds interviews and referee checks for sustained access to top secret material — it is the level typically needed for the most sensitive submarine and defence nuclear work.

Can I apply if I do not hold clearance yet?

Yes. Many employers sponsor clearance once you accept an offer, and will hold the start date while vetting completes. Roles that explicitly require existing clearance say so in the vacancy text.

How long does SC clearance take?

SC commonly takes several weeks and DV can take several months depending on backlog and how much overseas history has to be checked. Holding a live, transferable clearance is why cleared candidates are in such demand in Barrow and West Cumbria.
